Badminton’s Lucy Dodd is braced for one of the biggest challenges of her fledgling career following a successful finish to a stop-start summer.

The Sport Newcastle Platinum Award-supported athlete bagged double silver at the Kent Under 19 gold event after completing her A Levels.

And a three-week stint with England’s senior squad provided the perfect opportunity for one of the country’s rising stars to hone her skills at the highest level.

But an ankle injury sidelined Lucy in August — ruling her out of the All England Juniors event.

That showcase competition was a big miss but better news followed. Lucy aced her A Levels to win a place at Nottingham University and was named in the England team due to head to India for next month’s Under 19 World Championships.

“Our Platinum Awards support talented athletes at the top of their game flying the flag for the North East on the international stage,” said Sport Newcastle Awards Committee member Chris Waugh.

“Lucy is a fantastic ambassador for the region and everyone at Sport Newcastle wishes her all the best as she starts university life and represents her country on the global stage.”
