Toby ready to take his shot at an exciting future

Deadeye Toby Aberdeen set the seal on a longstanding partnership with Sport Newcastle by reinforcing his reputation as England’s number one.

And as the proven pistol shooter fixes his sights on Los Angeles 2028, coach and father Iain Aberdeen has underlined the value of our vital funding.

Toby has been backed by Sport Newcastle for a number of years and was ultimately awarded Platinum status — support reserved for the North East’s highest achieving senior international stars.

That funding comes to an end this year and Iain said: “The support of Sport Newcastle has been fundamental in terms of Toby being able to attend GB trials and to secure selection for major international events.

“As the funding comes to an end we'd like to thank everyone at the charity — and its supporters — for their help over the years.”

Toby secured his senior title at the 2025 English Championships earlier this summer and followed up with an encouraging display at ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany.

Placed 21st overall in the Rapid Fire Pistol event, he moved on to the 2025 European Shooting Championships — competing at the highest level in the junior pistol disciplines.

“Following Toby’s journey over the years has been fantastic,” said Sport Newcastle President Alan Younger.

“We’ve been proud to call him a Sport Newcastle Platinum athlete and he’s represented the city and the wider region with real professionalism.

“Toby’s future is bright and he’ll always be able to rely on our support.”
